Convincing win over OKs

The Redsox took on OKs on SLW yesterday knowing a result would secure the league title; we welcomed a few new faces in the form of Tino, Chris Lewis and welcome returns for Tim Lavers and Phil Crosby. Having not played in over a month the side struggled to find its usual fluency, but two early goals indicated that the game would go our way. The first scored by Phil C from a good assist by Terry finished a fine passing move up the pitch involving many of the team, the second was the first of two excellent Nick Hooper short corner strikes. We then generously allowed OKs to pull one back, and missed several good chances ourselves (the best as Terry chased a bouncing ball into the goal but unable to get any sort of touch on it), to go into half time 2-1 up.

The second half saw us move the ball better, with more patience and fewer optimistic aerials which allowed us to fully dominate possession, Tino scored with a very un-Redsox screaming reverse stick strike which went in off the far post, Hoops’ second from another good short corner strike and Micky got a more typical Redsox dribbler after a most unexpected Mike Sartorius pull back from the by-line! Well done it was great to wrap up the league with a convincing win.

Big thanks to Mike Gray for umpiring well (he wins our umpire of the season award!!) and to Andrew for playing in goal for OKs (and generously allowing the skipper to score a soft goal). OKs were gracious and sociable losers as the Redsox celebrated their league win in the bar afterwards with the usual stream of jugs – see attached team photos.

For the second time in 30 years Mrs Denehy was spotted watching a hockey match (well half of it) and she even took some “action” photos which you are welcome to view via the link below.
Redsox win the league vs OKs

Sadly the league organisers have cancelled the Vets Cup this year due to fixture congestion so we have no chance of completing the double but we do have one final game next week against Maidenhead at RHC at 4pm, which they have promised to honour, so all spectators / drinkers are welcome to come along to raise a glass or two to what has been a vintage Redsox campaign.

Can everyone confirm availability for Saturday to Bartie as we have two SuperVets and a Redsox match to play and very few of us can play twice in a weekend without our bodies completely giving up on us!

Micky
