Redsox go top
... on goal difference
A second consecutive 4-2 win ensures the Redsox go top of the league.
Once again we contrived to go 0-1 down against the run of play but the squad settled down to play excellent passing hockey, dominate possession and score three excellent first half goals to lead 3-1 at half time: goals came from Soma, Hoops (two in two matches) and Gavin.
In the second half we dominated the game but failed to convert our many, many chances including a string of approx. fourteen short corners, indeed we somewhat mysteriously managed to make the game interesting when Bromley scored from their only short corner to bring the game back to 3-2. Fortunately Soma settled things by deflecting in a Mike Pell short corner to wrap up the game.
In honesty we should have won 8 -2 to reflect our share of possession but hopefully we have stored up some spare goals for later in the season when they will count more. Great to see Soma, Don, Roger, Mike P, Gavin and Damon back in action for the Redsox – when we moved the ball around the pitch we looked a class side, (until final touch in front of goal). In truth their keeper had a blinder and was a worthy man of the match. The only downside was another card for a Redsox – no more please team!
Many thanks to Mike Gray and Bartie for umpiring a competitive game so well and hat’s off to Bromley for staying on to socialise long after the game.
Highlight of the day was the surprise arrival on the touchline of ex- RHC 1st XI star, Craig Mayhew, and his delightful American family – very good to see you Craig. See attached for four old gits from Reading 1st XI of the 1980s including Craig!
Next week we have Richmond away at 10.15am so please let Bartie know your availability and also please pay your subs on Pitchero today to qualify for the lower fee!!
