Redsox make it 4 from 4

The best Redsox team performance of the last two seasons saw them defeat a strengthened OKs side just before Storm Brian started really blowing.

First half goals from Tim Armitage (a good far post finish off a bouncing short corner pass from Hoops) and Steve Springthorpe (an old fashion reverse stick loop into goal as a follow up to a short corner shot just before the whistle) put us in a strong half time position.

OKs started the stronger and we were on the back foot for the first ten minutes but the team started playing very good passing hockey to take the initiative back and we could have been four or five goals up but the post denied both an excellent Mace drag flick and a fine strike from Ben Major after a flowing move down the right.

In the second half we played even better and with regular rotation we ensured we had fresh enough legs to hassle OKs from front to back. Our interplay was excellent and we created several good chance before Tim Armitage scored his second from another good move down the right.

It was good to see John Rees back in action for 20 mins having missed all last season through injury, annoyingly he was straight back in the groove! Likewise Keevey looked to be in good shape for his first match of the season and threatened up front.

Everyone played well, worked hard and moved the ball early and effectively – Brad and Mace made sure our distribution form the back was good throughout and our midfield linked well throughout - made easier by excellent movement up front.

Thanks to Mike Gray for blowing very well (he reckoned it was one of the best Redsox performances he has seen).

OKs, as always, were sociable in the bar (but sorry not to see their old boy Richard Dodds in Redsox) and the team rightfully enjoyed the post-match beer after a game that was a pleasure to play in. See attached.

Next week we are 11.30 am away at Maidenhead but several Redsox will be needed to play for the SuperVets – Bartie and I will try to do this fairly in rotation over the season.

Four wins in four is the perfect start to the season – well done squad!
