With England 2-0 down at half time Redsox took the pitch on a cold and damp morning in Thames Ditton for a top of the table clash.
OC’s looked hungry and organised in their warm-up but Redsox had the better of the early exchanges and scored the opening goal through Chris K. With a few mistakes creeping into our game OCs came back into it and started to look a bit more threatening before 2 goals in 2 mins from Roger and Hoops. 3-0 at half time and the ghosts of Richmond came into the conversation again.
The second half was similar to the first. Tightly fought with Redsox having more of the play but not completely dominating. A couple of scares were well saved by Martin who had great day in goal and 3 further goals scored by Mace and Tim off short corners and another by Hoops made the 3 points safe. (Great drag flick Mace – Barty please note!!). It got a bit scrappy towards the end as we started to think about mulled wine and mince pies and OC’s got a deserved goal at the end. Final result 6-1.
Overall another good performance and after a shaky start to the season the Redsox have come good and are top of the league. Special thanks to Mike for umpiring on such a cold day and also to all 35 of you that have represented the Redsox so far this season.
For those that count these things we have had 15 different goal scorers with Robbo and Tim A at the top with 3!
Good beers and tea followed to set us up for the Christmas break…
Enjoy the holidays and here’s to some more enjoyable and successful Reading Vets hockey in 2019
