3 Point Clear - Game in Hand

The news of a great win for the Rustlers just before we started helped to inspire the Redsox to a great start. Terry slotted home a clinical finish before EG even touched the ball after some good passing from the push back. Whilst we didn’t quite keep up that standard of play, the Redsox were generally in control of the first half and scored again soon after with Hoops slotting a well worked short corner. With a couple of simple errors creeping into our game, and some lack of communication, EG remained interested and a threat. However, fortunately a ridiculous penalty flick was eventual overruled and we went into half time at 2-0.

The second half was similar with Jon Rees controlling midfield, Brad cleaning up well at the back (and even venturing into their circle to score), and the “old men” from the Relics doing a grand job. Terry scored a similar goal to his first (although his attempt at the hattrick was less convincing!) and we could have had a number of others with good chances being created and their keeper making a number of great saves (much to Keevy’s frustration). EG then got a consolation goal towards the end.

So overall a very satisfying performance (especially compared to Maidenhead) which put us all in a good mood for a few beers and some magic on the dance floor at Burns Night. Was good to see Immy on the side and hope he will be back playing soon.

With results going our way we are still 3 pts clear with a game in hand at the top of the table. A couple of crucial games ahead that could determine the title …
