League Title in Site

We welcomed the 43rd, 44th and 45th players to represent the Redsox’s this season – surely some kind of record – but still manged to settle quickly into a good shape and solid structure. From the go the forwards worked hard putting OC’s under pressure and the defence were very well organised with a high level of both quantity and quality of communication from Phil Crosby and Simon C. As a result we created the better chances and lead 2-0 at half time from a very well worked goal which Scottish Steve finished off and a short corner strike from Hoops.

We dropped our concentration at the beginning of the 2nd half and OC’s scored a goal back. Then the whole team seemed to step up again with the midfield of Paxo, Ben and Steve B showing some great skill and opening up the OC’s defence. As a result we scored 3 relatively quick goals: Mike S finishing off a fantastic run from Ben; Scottish Steve putting a confident flick into the roof and Hoops striking low into the corner.

With the game safe we started to tire in the final 10 mins and conceded another goal but the defence held on well under pressure.

Overall a great team performance with everyone contributing. In addition to those above: Martin pulled off a couple of important saves; Hugh and C-K completing the back 4 and being very solid at half back; Tim Hamilton, Scottish Steve and Mike S working tirelessly up front; and finally Hamish nursed his hamstring for most of the game but came on to prove his fitness for the last few minutes.

Many thanks also to Jo and Mike for umpiring and ensuring a good team performance was also a very enjoyable game to play in.

The table looks good with Redsox at the top 5 points clear with a game in hand. Next week is away against Richmond who are in 2nd. A win would secure the league…
