Not best game but a win

On a warm spring day and playing on a hard & sticky sand based astro the Relics came away comfortable winners at Richmond despite not playing our usual fluent hockey. Also playing with a squad of 14 perhaps caused us a few issues as the regular rotation of players led to less connected play.

With the Redsox game cancelled we added Matt & Moaty alongside Brad to ensure we had enough firepower in case Richmond did the same!! We started well and moved the ball well going 1 -0 up as Jerry pushed in at the far post after good work by Bob, Bartie & Micky to set up the goal. After scoring we became a bit too clever and lazy in some of our passing and gave the ball away too much, but the defence did well to ensure Richmond did not really threaten and it was good to have Jack back playing in goal again for the Vets. A well taken goal by Wright saw us go into half time 2-0 up.

A well struck short corner allowed Richmond to pull one back before Brad coolly converted a penalty flick which he had created and then scored his second in open play to tie the game up and deservedly secure the man of the match award (Brad scored twice and ran our midfield well).

Big thanks to Robbo for blowing well.

Helpfully our nearest rivals, Hampstead and Indian Gym, drew against each other to leave the league title in our full control provided we win our remaining four games. Next week we have Tring at home so please let Bartie know your availability.

Well done Relics – not our best game but a win is a win.
