Winners!

The beautiful sunny morning and the prospect of a win had the whole team in good spirits. The day started off fairly well, with everybody turning up to Cressex on time, apart from Sophie, who had overslept and was only woken up by Abi phoning to ask where on earth she was! Sophie was immediately a Dick of the Day candidate. With everyone in high spirits, we had a very effective and constructive team talk, which set us up for the game. The beginning p the match started incredibly well, and the team had a lot of energy to work hat off the ball and create those chances in the D. As discussed before the match, transfers round the back featured quite heavily in the match, and it worked to our advantage, with Abi, Bev, Charlotte K, Marta and Alice L creating time and space to open up the pitch further up. Some excellent runs by our midfield players, Charlie, Hannah D and Charlotte T, created some great opportunities for our attackers, Hannah R, Philippa, Alice A and Becci, with Becci being extremely quick off the mark to score the first goal- a great goal to celebrate a really positive first 20minutes. A Reading short corner unfortunately came to no avail, but soon after, Reading had another opportunity in the D, with Hannah D taking a lovely strike on goal, with Alice A just touching the ball to ensure the ball reached the backboard. Half time was, again, really positive, with the team really pleased with our first half. We decided that one of our aims was to keep a clean sheet. The second half again started really well, with Charlotte T almost immediately scoring a blinder, which certainly took the opposition by surprise! Although we did lose our shape at times, and consequently having a couple of Wycombe penetrations into our D, we kept a strong defence, with everyone back behind the ball to support, an Sophie solidly defending our goal. We had another superb goal from Charlotte T and the game came to a close with a penalty corner for Reading. So all-in-all, a very pleasing match (and three points in the bag!)
MOM was Charlotte T for her excellent goals and working hard on the pitch. DOD unsurprisingly went to Sophie- the decision was unanimous!
For being DOD last week, Becci (or should I say her dad?!) had made a delicious chocolate cake, which even the opposition enjoyed!
