Hockey is not a watersport!

By now with these match reports you should be getting the opening theme....

On a rainy day in November the 2a's tentatively stepped out of the changing room into the cold. Despite the comprehensive warm up we led into the game with the same tentativeness. However, the game started gently but ended fiery!

An early concession from a short corner did not get the best of the team as good passing hockey continued to challenge the Oxford defence and midfield. We regrouped at half time with more focus on a tighter press to force the opposition wide and closer man to man marking at the back.

Good attacking play from Meg, Ellie and Alice A led to numerous short corners that weren't quite converted. Throughout, the half backs Emily (x2), Jess and Sophie all drove well up the line and good passing triangles meant the forwards had the space to challenge their strong defence.

Another Oxford short corner led to a goal against the run of play and another quick attack exposed some sloppy defending leading to 3-0.

The last 15 minutes were the best hockey for Reading, but there was simply too much to do. Meg ran her socks off and Alice was robbed of a much deserved goal as the whistle went just as she struck the ball over the line :(.

MOM - Kerr just, Meg closely behind
DOD - Frankie (for forgetting her shirt and sending Dad home to get it!)
