and Liz turns the air blue

Struggling, perhaps, to remember what position she was playing this week, Janice, our go anywhere, play anywhere star surprised us all by being shown a green card. It seems the umpire heard her mutter "b..... h..." to herself as her feet connected with the ball instead of the stick. The game was stopped and out came a green card. The fact that Liz had earlier turned the air blue having been bundled to the ground after a chase to stop the ball going off the pitch seemed to raise no reaction from either umpires, but caused shock and horror to our mild mannered defenders who could hear the expletives at the other end of the pitch. Apparently umpires have been asked to clamp down on inappropriate language (quite right) and have the power to produce a red card for anyone caught relieving themselves on the
pitch - this could be a far more serious issue for us given the ages of our forward line!
Now to the match itself. The early trek to Witney seemed to have woken everyone up as we were 2 goals (Liz and Tracy H) up within the first 10 minutes. This seemed to rather knock the stuffing out of Wychwood, and whilst we made heavy weather of the rest of the half, with Fran in goal providing much encouragement to the back line, they never really looked like scoring. With Dipesh expertly managing our bench we could concentrate on scoring some more goals. And so we did. Another from Tracy followed in quick succession by one each from Sandy and Trina made the final score 5-0.
Man of the match was very difficult as all agreed that it was a real team performance - and that was mostly the effort needed to get Liv's trousers on at the end of the game! Votes were cast and spread evenly amongst about five players - I can't remember who, but mention should be made of Henna, who, in her first session of ladies hockey, has already made great progress. Well done too to Ant. She always seems to be there just when you need her most.
