Gemmill keeps GK guessing

as having been passed the ball by Sandy, Liz faced a 2 on 1 with their GK. While all behind her wondered if she was ever going to shoot, Liz calmly struck the ball between the advancing keepers legs for the only goal of the game.
Reading started strongly but were unable to convert any other chances. Missing the vocal encouragement and strength of Tracy H, we rather lost our shape, giving Wallingford space to use their superior speed and pass the ball around. Not for the first time this season, the stubbornness and experience of our defending unit came to the fore. Wave after wave of Wallingford forwards were repelled, Zoe dealing efficiently with any shots that were on target. Not to be outdone by Tammy's usual acrobatics, Heidi careered through one of their youngsters but was unable to keep her feet leaving both players in a crumpled heap wondering what had happened. Thankfully both players eventually got to their feet and were able to carry on.
In the last 10 minutes or so of the game, the forward unit regained some shape and composure and we drew a collective sigh of relief as the final whistle went leaving our undefeated run in the league intact.
Man of the match was Liz, but special mention should go to Janice and Amanda for some sterling work on the flanks. Thank you too to Wallingford for a hard fought game played in very good spirit.
