“I can’t help my face…”

And so the season begins...
A bright and sunny day as we take on Sonning 4’s. They with their regimented passing play and us with, well, let’s say a more bohemian and ‘go with the flow’ approach.
After a strong start to the game, putting Sonning under pressure we were rewarded with a short corner. From an injection from yours truly to Sandy, a crisp strike and we are 1-0 up.
Unfortunately, Sonning came back at us and within 10 minutes they had equalised. (Sorry there is no detail for this bit but the author of this report had gone to spend a penny).
From this point we were put under a lot of pressure, some from our own making as fitness levels and passing accuracy were a little off. However, there was some very solid defensive play from Karen, Heidi, Di and Sharon, plus many saves from joint MOM, Nicky in goal which kept the score at 1-1 until halftime.
The second half was much of the same. From much pestering of Sonning’s defence and a lot of long balls forward our efforts were rewarded by another short corner.
The plan: - me to again inject the ball to joint MOM, Sandy to strike, same as before. So the injection went to Laura who hit it towards the goal and Nett, Alex Danson-ish (but without the dive) deflected the ball around the keeper.
The final score 2-1. Well done all, let’s hope we can walk again by Tuesday and the match reports get better.
