“push the ball between their legs… and have a star minute”
Sandy Boyle. 01/10/16
So our second league game takes us to the home of England Hockey –Bisham Abbey. Very tough opposition, Marlow 4’s and we were a few players short due to the lure of Portuguese sun soaked beaches being preferred to a rain soaked blue astro – can’t imagine why!
So we knew we would be under pressure. We were not wrong as most of the game took place in and around our 25. But the whole team were immense. Marlow threw everything at us but we just scooped it up and threw it right back.
Nicky in goal made save after save ably assisted by Maria who swept two shots off the line. Di was busy clearing out and MOM Krishna led the midfield badgering and pestering the oppo at every opportunity.
And that was just the first half. We were really pleased to get to this point with the score being 0-0. More of the same in the second half, but we were becoming more comfortable in our game and Marlow were getting a little frustrated.
We began to push the play a little further up the pitch on a few occasions, halfway and even into their ‘D’! On one of these occasions the ball was passed out to Liv on the left wing by Ann. Liv took the ball into Marlow’s 25, passed it in to the circle back to Ann. Ann dinked the ball past the goalie, picking it up again on the back line, dodged the near post and deposited the ball in the goal.
1-0!
I don’t think anyone was more surprised than we were and when the final whistle went, you would have thought we had won the league. The Fabulous Fours lived up to their name with plenty of star minutes.
I am in awe of the amount of work that everyone put in today, it was a pleasure playing with you all (shame about the rain though). Thanks to Dipesh for running the bench so well and Will for supporting in the rain.
