Ooops!
Take a perfect Autumnal day (sunny and not cold), 15 players including a goalie, 2 umpires and a fixture between the top of the league(us) versus 10th (Phoenix & Ranelagh). What could go wrong?
Well, everything really. Firstly Phoenix & Ranelagh – from now on called P&R (author can’t keep typing that much), played very well and, to be honest, we didn’t.
P&R came out all guns blazing and forced some short corners, which they weren’t able to convert.
However, we did manage to break into their circle with some slick passing between Sandy & TC. TC then scored. We did not build on the lead though, and unfortunately P&R equalized.
Our rather lacklustre passing and being second to the ball match play ended with P&R scoring again in the second half.
There were flashes of our former selves from Sandy and MOM Karen, plus some near misses from the ‘Tracies’ & Liv. But P&R held out till the final whistle.
The lesson of the day must be that the Fours & afternoon matches do not go together. Hopefully normal service will be resumed next week.
