HALF TERM BREAK 22 OCT for all age groups (except for BU10 Rockets fixture)
Back on 29th October.
DON'T FORGET OUR HALF TERM CLASSIC AND PERFORMANCE CAMPS ON 23RD & 24TH. For information please click on the 'Reading Hockey Camps' quick link on this website.
Reading Hockey Club boasts a strong Young Leaders team (aged 13 to 17) that helps adult Lead Coaches every week with coaching and umpiring the U6 to U12 age groups. In addition, YLs umpire and assist in the coordination of the monthly 7-side Thames Valley Mini tournaments at Reading HC.
The Young Leaders are the Next Generation of club leaders. The leadership skills they learn and practice provide great confidence not just in hockey but to take forward as they progress in their lives.
Our Young Leaders have used their volunteer time as part of Duke of Edinburgh qualifications as well as using it as a stepping stone to further coaching and umpiring qualifications.
Our Young Leader coordinator for the 2017/18 season will be appointed shortly.

YOUNG LEADERS COURSE AND QUALIFICATION
The Young Leaders training course at Reading is based on the England Hockey Award. The course covers:
- General principles of leadership
- Delivering hockey
- Organising a hockey festival
- Managing hockey
- How hockey is structured and governed
The 2 and half day course brings to life the course work by providing opportunities to practice some of the skills they have learnt and to receive and give feedback under the supervision of the experienced course tutors Philippa Saunders and Bev Thompson.
Once qualified, the YLs support the Minis training sessions on Sunday mornings during the season between 9am and 10.30am. We appreciate that they will not be able to make every Sunday but these Sundays do provide an excellent opportunity for YLs to practice and develop their skills. Some of our older YLs (including those returning from University) are now working on our Summer Camps.
This EH award can help support GCSE/A Level PE; Duke of Edinburgh activities; CVs and Personal Statement; University and job applications. We sign off and provide evidence of volunteer work for DoE, school volunteer programmes, GCSE etc. at the end of each season as requested.
Young Leaders are requested to submit their availability for Sunday sessions via pitchero.
The next Young Leaders course will take place on 21st to 23rd August 2017 at the club:
Monday 21st Aug - 4pm to 9pm
Tuesday 22nd Aug - 9am to 5pm
Wednesday 23rd Aug 9am to 5pm
COURSE REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN SOON
Minimum age 13.
The course is limited to 16 participants. Participants are required to complete the EH on-line modules for both In2Hockey and Quicksticks prior to attending the course, details of which will be provided when you register.
