After a strong Premier Division Season, a competitive Phase 2 & 3 and an even more nail-biting Finals Weekend, Reading HC Women's 1st XI were yesterday crowned Premier Division Champions!
Qualifying for Finals Weekend by virtue of a strong final phase of the season, Reading took on Hampstead & Westminster in their Semi Final, the London team having finished the regular season at the top of the pile. It was a tense game that Reading led until the final 5 minutes when H&W removed their keeper, pressed hard and scored the equaliser. Nerves were shredded on the sidelines, but the match ended 1-1, taking it to a shoot-out. With calm heads and 'the wall' that is Nikki Cochrane in goal... the girls prevailed 2-0!
So on to the Final... and another match up vs. Surbiton who's men had just sealed their own Premier Division Title in the game before. Many watching on the stream (and several members past and present from all around the world) will say how much Reading dominated and that the result was never in doubt... but from the sidelines, there were definitely moments. In the end, an absolute 'worldie' from our adopted Kiwi Emma Findlay sealed it and put us back into Europe and at the top of the domestic game once more!!!
