Moving into the third week of the season the team was looking to get back to winning ways while hosting Witney, a club who came up with them from the league below. Having beaten Witney to first place last year by 10 points and 41 more goals scored they understandable came to the lane with a chip on their shoulder.
The first half started well for Reading, controlling the game and frustrating Witney who dropped back into a half court press from the very beginning of the match.... not so entertaining for the 10 fans on the side of the pitch. The patience shown by the fullback pairing of Phil Walden and Jamie Elder showed dividends when reading broke into the D and won a short corner, with Joe Rogers playing 2s Kimber stepped up to flick. Needless to say the flick didn't come off too well but he made up for it with a reverse on the rebound that flew in off the underside off the crossbar. 1-0 Reading, the fans looking on hopefully to see a second... unfortunately the second goal went Witneys way after a poor pass across the back was picked off and after a small period of scrappy play a Witney player shot from the top and the ball found its way in.
The second half continued into some more scrappy play where Reading played with 10 men for a significant period after cards for Will Thomson and Pete Richards. Despite the lack of a central midfielder for most of the second half Reading had the majority of chances but failed to find the goal, full time 1-1 with a lot of work to do before their game away at Ashford the following weekend where Reading hope the weather is a little more amenable.
Dan Hulbert remains Goalless.
