This weekend hockey fans were treated to an exciting ladies’ game between Henley 3’s and Reading 6’s opposite Tesco in Henley. The BBQ of the burger van on the football ground, drifted a different aroma across the pitch as we pushed back.
In the spirit of our one sentence from each player, the team managed this report ……
And now to put a little more content into the report ?
With a number of new players, and without captain Olivia who was madly doing a triathlon, the Ladies 6’s team started well against a young, well-disciplined Henley 3rd team. Both teams displayed skill and determination, considering it was the first game of the season. The game started even with some good passing around by Reading and Henley were able to break fast. Reading were not as disciplined in marking as we would have liked to be. After some good play, Henley scored an early goal from a penalty corner followed by another later in the half from a breakthrough open play attack.
The half time team talk focused on tightening up a few areas and off we went again. Both teams showed their intension to dominate but it was Henley who started to win the battle in midfield. However, Reading didn’t give up, however, and some excellent distribution down the right led to the ball being passed to Brit. Determined to exhibit early strike, she struck the ball just inside the D from a very narrow angle and BOOM! Goal to Reading!
Henley’s continued efforts soon paid off and they were rewarded with another goal. The game finished 3-1 to Henley. Teas were enjoyed by most of the team (as always!).
